MY CROSSING STORY
Matthew from Quincy 48th
On Feb 5th 1996, God allowed me to live through the hard addiction to alcohol. After several attempts to become sober, I woke up in a hospital after almost dying from alcohol poisoning. That day something was different. Looking back, I feel that Christ was there with me, pushing me, guiding me, and setting the stage for me to hear the message spoken to me years later by Jerry Harris.
It is very hard to not see Christ every step of the way leading me in His will to lean on the trust and faith He has given me, and to rely on Him in the present, and for any future He has in store for me.
After becoming sober, life was good, normal, not unique, but ok. Wife, kids, and a good job, but something was missing. God ultimately led me to The Crossing through my employment. Once here in Quincy, my wife and oldest daughter started looking for a church and made their first stop The Crossing. After that experience, I went the following Sunday, and we have been at The Crossing ever since. The first sermon I heard was from Jerry and I remember being disappointed that was over so soon. After looking at my watch, I realized that it was an hour and ten minutes later. God spoke that day to me. I can tell you that He has an incredible way of doing that when your heart is open and ready to receive Him.
“Christ has allowed me to utilize His name in all areas of my work. I am allowed by Christ to communicate with many influential people in the community to hopefully send them a message that Christ should not be ashamed of.”
I invited Christ into my heart through the faith, trust, and obedience of baptism. My life changed. Life became harder, but only harder in the sense that I now understood the sin that was in my life and that my life needed to change. Life started being about what God wanted instead of what I wanted. It became about His desires instead of my desires. It became about the understanding that by myself I am nothing and that only with Christ can I be saved. The acceptance of that transformed my life and my entire way of thinking
Christ has allowed me to utilize His name in all areas of my work. I am allowed by Christ to communicate with many influential people in the community to hopefully send them a message that Christ should not be ashamed of. No matter what the consequences, Christ name will be heard and scripture will be used.
I share my faith with others every chance I get. Displaying what Christ would want me to display and when I mess up, showing those around me that asking for forgiveness and admitting my wrongs is the only path to freedom.
“Jesus Christ gave me the ability to see through my problems, struggles, and defeats, to trust Him. He, like a loving Father, knows the big picture. He knows the end result.”
The Crossing, through the guidance of Jesus Christ, has given me everything. Not the tangible, but the intangible. Not the visible, but the invisible. What more of an experience can anyone want than that?
To those who need hope in their lives: Jesus Christ gave me the ability to see through my problems, struggles, and defeats, to trust Him. He, like a loving Father, knows the big picture. He knows the end result. He knows the last words of the novel. Hope comes from trust and even though situations may not get better in the moment, the end of the story is incredible. The story gives and produces hope that He has it all under control. Lean on Him and He will handle your burdens.
